Michael Dicker

Michael Dicker has studied bassoon and holds music performance degrees from  UCLA, University of Michigan, and the Juilliard School.

He began his professional performing career as a bassoonist with the United State Military Academy Band at West Point. 

He has served as first bassoonist of the Colorado Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, Neu Westphälische Philharmonie (Germany), the Belgian Radio Symphony, the Essen Philharmonic, and the Deutsche Oper am Rhein. Since 1988 Mr. Dicker has performed as principal bassoonist of the Peoria Symphony Orchestra and contrabassoonist of  the Illinois Symphony.

 

As a chamber musician Mr. Dicker has been prize winner of the Coleman Chamber Competition.  He has performed as a member of the Lincoln Center Foundation Woodwind Quintet, the Lieurance Quintet, and currently is a member of Sonneries Quintet (Illinois State University Faculty Woodwind Quintet).  He was a faculty member of Orvieto Musica (Italy) and currently is a master teacher and faculty member of Summer Bassoon Extravaganza of  Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.

Michael Dicker has worked with Fox Products in several capacities.  From 1979 through 1984, Mr. Dicker was European Representative for Fox Products.  Since  returning to the United States in 1984,  Mr. Dicker has served Fox Products as service technician during summers in South Whitley.   He has represented Fox Products as display clinician throughout the United States.  You have probably met Mr. Dicker during his work with Fox at Midwest Clinics in Chicago or at IMEA in Peoria.

Mr. Dicker was engaged as bassoon instructor at Wichita State University, Musikschule Bochum (Germany).  He has been a member of the faculty of Illinois State University since 1986 where he is Professor of Bassoon.

Michael and oboist wife Judith are parents of two daughters.  Erica is a free lance violinist in New York.  Talia is a recent cello graduate of Eastman School of Music.  Michael and Judith reside in Normal, Illinois.
