This rarely seen optional guard is placed over the C sharp trill key on the boot joint to protect from inadvertent opening of the key by the player's forefinger. It is not normally needed when a crutch or palm guard is in place. The illustration shows the guard in use with an offset C sharp spatula for the trill key. It works even better with the normal key. |
