Alan Fox

Alan Fox was born in Chicago and lived there with his family until 1949. At this point he moved with his family to South Whitley, Indiana, to live on the property where his father had grown up.

Alan won a state chemistry contest while in high school. His parents wanted him to study engineering in college, so he went on to study chemical engineering at Purdue. While attending Purdue, Alan was a member of the ROTC program. After graduation, he served as an Army officer in Germany for two years.

When Alan returned from Germany, he gained employment from Procon, Inc., in Des Plains, Illinois, and began building oil refineries and chemical plants. In 1958 his father began having a series of strokes. At the time, Alan was pursuing an MBA from Northwestern University, as well as continuing his career as a chemical engineer. Alan gave these things up in September of 1960 to begin running the family business when his father's strokes had become too severe for him to be able to continue at full capacity.

During his early career, Alan was assisted by the company's principal stockholder, Harold W. McMillen, who was CEO of Central Soya Corporation, one of America's largest agribusinesses. Mr. McMillen arranged for Alan to learn corporate management from Mr. Albert Powell, who managed Central Soya's acquisitions. This education was an important ingredient in Fox Products' long term success.

In 1960, Fox Products was owned by a group of stockholders. Over time, with Mr. McMillen's assistance, the Fox family acquired all of the company's stock. To this day, Alan remains as president and is still active in various research projects.
